Helping to Turn Your Business Challenge Into a Competitive Success

Federal agencies today face a daunting set of complex technology challenges. Budget constraints and aggressive development schedules threaten their ability to attain mission success. Increasingly complex systems and IT environments, coupled with new and ever-changing IT security threats, pose significant obstacles to service delivery. Powertek has developed a framework for managing and creating systems that meet customer needs while maximizing value as measured via cost, time, and performance metrics.
Systems Engineering
Our experienced engineers take a comprehensive approach based on systems engineering best practices. Our approach begins with the collection and documentation of customer requirements, business processes, policies, standards, and risks. Customer needs are formally documented and tracked from the time they are captured until the system is operational, employing standard systems development lifecycle processes that meet Federal mandates.
Capabilities include:
- Understanding customer needs/requirements
- Process and business rule identification and documentation
- Concept development and visualization
- Alternatives analysis
- Design options and tradeoffs
- Implementation alternatives that incorporate data and security policies
- Testing, verification, and validation
- Architecture development and services deployment.
We conduct root cause analysis and dissect the requirements to understand the customer’s current systems environment and devise future state options from an engineering point of view. We focus on clarity of the current systems environment, data needs, and integration goals while balancing this with defined and responsive architecture, performance standards, and security, privacy, and risk mitigation approaches.
Employing the Federal Enterprise Architecture Framework as a guide, we conduct engineering assessments and evaluative reviews to ensure compliance and overall system performance. Systems integration and implementation plans are developed to ensure that the systems perform as designed (verification) and meet the requirements of our customer (validation).
Software Development
Powertek’s experienced developers and applications professionals employ a responsive approach based on commercial best practices (e.g., CMMI, ISO) and unified development, where iterative planning, use case analysis, and systems architecture are principal tenets. All development activities are grouped into small, manageable, focused iterations or spirals, with well defined objectives. We identify schedules, tasks, resources, and deliverables with defined completion criteria. Our configuration-management/change control process ensures effective management of change at all levels of the program/project.
Capabilities include:
- Enterprise Software Development
- Web Services/Applications Development
- Systems Integration and Maintenance
- Legacy Systems Migration and Operation
- COTS Solutions Deployment and Integration
- Database Design and Development
- Master Data Management Tools and Techniques.
