The NSA serves as the lead technical administrators for the entire OUI network, act for the Technical Team Leader System Operations in the Team Lead's absence, carrying out all day-to-day responsibilities of that position. Tasks and directs subordinates in day-to-day technical administration of the OUI network and reports issues to upper level management when noted.
The NSA performs systems administration activities for the OUI Network, currently consisting of a variety of Sun Enterprise and Windows Servers. These activities include system monitoring and performance enhancement, writing back-up procedures for off-peak hours, providing user support, and performing general troubleshooting to isolate and resolve system problems.
The NSA maintains up-to-date knowledge of the fast changing system and network security industry. The NSA determines growth projections of the communications network and ensures periodic reviews of the audit logs to support network security.
The NSA provides technical advice for network and communications equipment, software, and supply purchases, including study and analysis of various alternative technologies and products, investigation of vendor sources and technical specifications, and the integration, testing, demonstration, and implementation of equipment and software.
The NSA maintains, enhances, and monitors the security of the OUI network and its components. The NSA also recommends the creation and implementation of systems standards, policies, and procedures, designed to improve the quality of the OUI network and related information and enforces standards, policies, and procedures as relates to the OUI network.
The NSA designs, develops, and implements programs and/or procedures to automate routine operational functions.
The NSA installs, updates, and modifies system software and applications packages on the computer systems to ensure seamless integration into the OUI automation environment.
The NSA maintains, updates, and enhances technical documentation of OUI’s computer systems (e.g., the Operations and Support Procedures Manual, the OUI Computer Systems Security Manual, the State System Administrator’s Manual, the State Network Configuration Guide, etc.).
The NSA documents procedures for backups, adding components, troubleshooting problems, emergency shutdown and startup, notifying all users of network failure, review of audit logs for security etc.
The NSA provides technical advice for OUI ADP hardware and software purchases, including study and analysis of various alternative products and technologies, investigation of vendor sources and technical specifications, and the testing and demonstration of equipment and software.
The NSA provides user support to Federal staff and telephone support to field users with respect to hardware and software problems and provides on-site support to field users, if necessary.
The NSA provides technical assistance in the planning, testing, and integration of new ADP equipment and provides assistance in OUI long-range ADP planning.
